NASW Montana Working Committees

NASW Montana Chapter members are strongly encouraged to participate in our working committee. Our committees are literally how NASW Montana serves its mission and reaches its Chapter Strategic Plan goals. Join like-minded individuals across Montana working to make positive change today!

What is Expected from Committee Members?

Each committee is comprised of a chair and committee members. You can read position descriptions for both roles hereBelow are details for each committee and we encourage you to reach out to the chair person directly if you have questions or email Nathan Stahley, Executive Director. In addition to regularly scheduled meetings, committees communicate frequently using a Slack Workspace.

Policy & Professional Advocacy Committee

Chairperson: Currently vacant, email nstahley.naswmt@socialworkers.org to apply to be chair or join this committee.

Purpose: To advocate for and protect the integrity, sustainability, and equity of the social work profession by engaging in legislative and board of behavioral health policy work and public education.

Areas of Focus:

-Local and State Legislation
-Board of Behavioral Health Rule Making

-Social Work Interstate Compact

Meeting Schedule:

Virtually monthly (TBA). More during the legislative session.

Community Action Committee

Chairperson: Currently vacant, email nstahley.naswmt@socialworkers.org to apply to be chair or join this committee.

Purpose: To collaborate with local organizations and professionals across Montana to engage in community-centered events and build coalitions.

Areas of Focus:

-Promoting opportunities to engage in local grass-roots advocacy events and efforts

Meeting Schedule:

Virtually from 9-10am (MT) the second Friday of the every month.

Ethics & Professional Development Committee

Chairperson: Email Leanna Troesh, SWLC to join this committee.

Purpose: To provide high-quality continuing education and educational opportunities aligned with the NASW Code of Ethics. To provide monthly live opportunities for learning and to develop evergreen content to help our members thrive professionally.

Areas of Focus:

-Ethics Education
-Clinical Supervisor Training
-Licensure Exam Prep
-Webinar Series Events
-Annual Conference

Meeting Schedule:

Virtually from 6:00-7:00pm (mt) the first Wednesday of every month.

Membership and Outreach Committee

Chairperson: Email Lexi Laird to join this committee.

Purpose: to build strong connections with our members, help with member recruitment and retention, and enhance the value of NASW membership.

Areas of Focus:

-Make calls to new members welcoming them to NASW
-Develop and administer member survey
-Help with regional gatherings
-Social Work Spotlight Awards

Virtually from 6:30-7:30pm (MT) the second Wednesday of every month.
